Parkes Junior Netball will be promoting the importance of positivity this week as part of the annual Shoosh for Kids campaign to encourage teams, officials and family members to show each other respect and encouragement on and off the court.

There’s nothing worse than the negative behaviour of someone watching and ruining it for everyone. Get involved in the state-wide campaign to keep comments positive at junior sport – remember, sport should be fun! #shooshforkids.

Mother Nature dished up a glorious day for netball last Saturday. With more close scores in division 2, it’s shaping up to be a tight race come finals time.

This week will be the launch of encouragement awards for the net and set divisions giving the lucky winners a canteen voucher to spend.

What a great round of netball with a lot of close matches played.

The newly added division 2 shirts look bright and colourful giving the girls a sense of team unity. Division 1 shirts are on the way. As it is getting colder, teams are reminded to warm up before matches to limit injuries.

It was great to see so many new and familiar faces at the gala day on Monday. We would like to welcome and congratulate Niki Guy and Maree Harbidge as the new Saturday morning junior coordinators.

They will be at the courts each week running the junior competitions.

The committee have taken care to ensure teams are even in strength and playing positions.

Please note that teams are subject to change. Players should arrive 15-20 minutes before the start of their games to

The netball winter competition is starting on Tuesday, 5th March. Get a team together or just register online through MyNetball and you will be allocated into a team. The competition will run for 14 weeks with finals to follow. The cost for adults has been discounted to $155. Parkes and District Netball Association is registered with Active Kids which means juniors can play for free, otherwise the cost is $100. All registrations will be done online through MyNetball and payments via direct deposit to Parkes Netball. Registration closes on Friday, 22nd February. Sign up at www.mynetball.com.auto.

The last home game for the Panthers this season ended with a fantastic win over Cowra.

Korine Coleman kicked two behinds early in the game. Felicity Ralph scored her first goal of the season, followed by captain Emma ‘Baz’ Barry scoring two goals for the quarter. Ally Hetherington and Lauren Andrews kicked another four behinds. Cowra stayed scoreless.

A freezing and blowy second quarter saw Cowra score one goal and three behinds. Ally Hetherington scored a behind.

At half-time Parkes were up by 14 points. Emma Barry used her lanky legs to boot a goal. Lauren Andrews weaved her magic to score a goal. Korine Coleman scored two goals. Cowra scored a behind.

Final quarter and the Panthers were up by 39 points. Cowra scored two behinds.

With outstanding efforts Alex Briton and Kimberley Dixon found Emma Barry, Lauren Andrews and Ally Hetherington, as they all scored goals and four behinds were kicked. An excited Coach Ralph said it was a “fantastic win for the last home game”. Parkes 10.11-71 defeated Cowra 1.6-10

The Parkes District Netball Association sent a contingent of 42 representatives to the State Age championships in Sydney recently.

Parkes fielded three teams for the competition in the 13, 14 and 15 year age groups. Each team played a minimum of six half hour games each day.

There were 19 teams in the 13 year division – won by Brunswick Byron.

Day 1 started with losses to Casino and Inverell. The next game against Gunnedah was an 8 all draw and they won their next two games convincingly against Cobar and Armidale. The last game ended with a loss to Macleay 10-8.

Day 2 was a hard day with the final tally at 5 loses, 1 win.

Day 3 was again a tough one against 4 teams who finished in the top 10. The results were 1 win against Narrabri, followed by 3 narrow losses against Woolgoolga, Sapphire Coast and Kurri Kurri going down by one point to each on the buzzer. With nothing left in the tank the girls went down in the last 2 games against Goulburn and Kiama.

The 14 year group had 19 teams with Macleay the overall winners.

Day 1 started with a win against Narrabri, but they they went down in the next 5 games.

Day 2’s first match against Mudgee ended with a loss, a win against Gunnedah, losses to Goulburn and Inverell, and a win against Yass. They lost the final match against Ulladulla.

Day 3 they played 4 top ten rated teams with losses against Leeton, Woolgoolga, Kiama, Lower Clarence and Port Stephens.

They took away a win against Armidale.

The largest field was in the 15 year division with 21 teams with eventual winners Armidale.

Day 1 they faced strong teams and went down to Temora, Grafton, Group 14, Narrandera and Gunnedah, but finished with a win over Ulladulla & Districts.

Day 2 started with a loss against eventual winners Armidale. They posted their second win over Sapphire Coast before going down to Brunswick Byron, Glen Innes, Cessnock and Kurri Kurri.

Day 3 brought 7 matches with the final tally of 4 losses against Macleay, Lower Clarence, West Wyalong and Mount Druitt, 1 narrow loss against Coonabarabran and 2 wins against Narrabri and Port Stephens.

A highlight of the weekend was getting to watch the Round 10 Suncorp Super Netball match between the Giants and Swifts at the ICC on Sunday night after meeting some of the players on Saturday.
